“That Would Be Amazing”- Dwight Howard Speaks on His Intentions After WWE Tryout

Dwight Howard is best known for being his time spent in the NBA, a career spanning 18 seasons across seven different teams. Howard has had a lot of success in the league, but his basketball career might just be coming to an end. So, what’s next for the NBA big man? Howard speaks about what the future holds for him, and it might just seem him entering the world of wrestling.

WWE held a tryout event during SummerSlam week, spanning over three days and consisting of over 20 former and current college athletes. Among those who showed up at the tryouts was Howard. Part of the tryout was cutting a promo in front of everyone, and Howard did just that.

Howard surprised a lot of people with how charismatic and electric his promo was. In an interview with Arash Markazi, Howard was asked if he has a future in the WWE.

“I think it is something that’s in my future,” the 36-year-old said. “I love the WWE, I love wrestling.”

Howard does have hopes of becoming a professional wrestler in WWE someday.

“And hopefully one day in the future, I’ll actually be in the ring, wrestling and holding up the belt,” Howard said. “That would be amazing.”

Howard was asked if he had been practicing the promo that he cut on stage.

“Oh, I’ve just been watching this my whole life and I’m like man if I had an opportunity to do this, I was going to do it with my whole heart and try to be the best that I can,” he said.

Howard’s NBA Future

Howard made it clear that he wants to join the WWE someday but does want to continue his basketball career for now.

“I would love to play in the NBA,” Howard said. “Obviously, that’s where I’ve been my whole entire life. I love basketball it’s my passion, I still have years left in me. So, I would definitely love to play and just end my career on a high note … and then transition to the best business in the world, the WWE.”

Howard has hopes of becoming a WWE legend himself. He would love to start a new career in Orlando, where he started his basketball career.

“That would be awesome if I started in Orlando, a new career as a wrestler, just like I did with the Magic, as a basketball player… I want to meet all of the legends and one day become a WWE legend myself,” Howard said.

Professional Athletes Transitioning to Professional Wrestling

There has been a growing desire for other athletes in professional sports to transition into professional wrestling. That was one of the main reasons WWE invited numerous college athletes spanning a variety of sports to try out. With Howard just a few years from 40, it’s best if he chases his dream of becoming a professional wrestler sooner rather than later.
